IAOM Women in Milling Brings Industry Professionals Together for Learning and Collaboration

The IAOM Women in Milling event brought together industry professionals for a program focused on professional development, communication, relationship building and collaborative problem-solving.

The morning session featured Dr. Melissa Furman, who led “Navigate, Elevate, Accelerate,” a session addressing a range of topics related to professional growth. The program covered professional branding, building meaningful relationships, communication and influence, burnout prevention, and intentional goal-setting.

The session provided participants with practical approaches to strengthening their professional presence and relationships while supporting more deliberate approaches to career and personal development.

The afternoon program shifted to an interactive team-based activity titled “Mill Mystery: Case File #1863: The Missing Wheat.” Participants worked in teams to examine evidence packets, assess operational clues and collaborate to identify the root cause of a missing wheat shipment.

The exercise was designed to encourage problem-solving and discussion among participants, with teams working collectively to evaluate the available information and develop their conclusions.

By combining a professional development session with a practical, interactive case exercise, the IAOM Women in Milling event provided participants with opportunities to engage in both individual development and collaborative learning.

The program highlighted the role of communication, professional relationships and teamwork alongside technical and operational knowledge in the milling industry.
