Imas Multimilla + Rollermill Introduces a New Design Approach to Roller Milling

Developed by Imas, Multimilla + Rollermill introduces a new-generation design for roller milling equipment, addressing mechanical construction, drive systems, automation and maintenance processes as an integrated whole. The machine focuses on key requirements of modern milling operations, including vibration control, energy efficiency, process precision and ease of maintenance access.

One of the key structural features of the Multimilla + Rollermill is its mineral cast frame, used instead of conventional welded steel construction. According to Imas’s technical data, the structure provides approximately 20 times greater vibration absorption performance compared with welded steel. This characteristic is particularly relevant for continuously operating roller mills, where maintaining mechanical stability and reducing the effects of vibration are important operational considerations.

Stainless steel surfaces are used in product-contact areas, while rounded internal corners and minimised dead zones support hygienic design. Infrared level sensors incorporated into the feeding system contribute to feed-flow control, while a feed-roll rotation sensor supports operational safety monitoring.

Automation and maintenance take centre stage

The direct-drive technology used as standard for the feed rolls is designed to simplify mechanical power transmission while improving efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements. In the grinding section, optional next-generation torque motors provide an energy-efficient alternative to conventional induction motors.

Another notable technology is the i-GPC® active grinding pressure control system, which continuously monitors and automatically adjusts grinding pressure in real time. This is designed to reduce the need for manual intervention and support more consistent process management.

From a maintenance perspective, fully opening front doors and a sliding feeding assembly that can be removed as a single unit facilitate access to the machine’s internal components. The ability to replace the grinding rolls in approximately 15 minutes is another design feature aimed at reducing potential downtime during maintenance. The optional SmartLub® system provides centralised, automatic lubrication of the roll housings and allows the lubrication operations of multiple roller mills within a plant to be managed through a single system.

Overall, the Multimilla + Rollermill demonstrates an integrated engineering approach to roller milling, focusing not only on grinding performance but also on mechanical stability, energy use, process control and maintenance time.
